Famagusta 11 man defence couldn’t hold on… Thursday, Oct 23 2008

…poor old Anorthosis …. couldn’t hold on last night…they even had the first decent shot on target.

The almighty San Siro was more or less empty and was not the intimidating cauldron it is when it is packed to the rafters.  The boys from Famagusta (via Larnaca) made a great account of themselves although Inter were VERY poor. 1-0 was the final score and with the other two teams in the group, Bremen and Panathiaikos darwing, Anorthosis still lie second behind Inter…. the free Souvla and Carlsberg helped the pain of defeat.

First time in a eight months we’ve had two consecutive days of rain. Not a great deal fell yesterday but today its been fairly consistent this afternoon. Tomorrow Friday was predicted to be the real rain in Larnaca…. fingers crossed for more tomorrow…

We took this Cracker on yesterday …. you cannot get closer to the sea… Fantastic bechfront apartment…60 sqm…and a covered balcony….

Famagusta to Milan… Wednesday, Oct 22 2008

Its Champions League again tonight and its probabaly (as they say on the beer ads.) the biggest game in the history of Anorthosis…. little old Famagusta are being entertained by one of the giants of European football, the almighty  INTERNAZIONALE in the even more almighty SAN SIRO – a true ampitheatre of football.  Still here is hoping for the Cyprus under dogs to pull off a truely historic result.

Inter and the Special One (Jose Mourinho surely the biggest personality in world football) come to the game on top of Sirie A with 16 points from 7 games. However, Famagusta can take great heart because in the Champions League both teams have 4 points from two games, having EXACTLY the same reults, a win against Panathinaikos and a draw against Bremen  ……

Its the game of the week here in Cyprus and every other BAR and Taverna in LARNACA is showing live on a huge screen. My local watering hole is offering a mountain of free SOUVLA to all comers tonight …..even Italians….

Go go the Blue Hools….lets hope we don’t freeze in the San Siro…

Another barmy night of Cyprus Football Tuesday, Oct 21 2008

Well what a game that was !!! – Apoel and Omonia locked horns last night in a passionate and partisan game of footie. The National satdium (GSP) was a full as I’ve seen it for a domestic game and the noise was terrific.  Both teams hail from Nicosia so there is certainly no love lost between them….the excitement before kick off was tangible with both sets of supporters trying to out do one  another in the noise stakes.  The legions of Green (for Omonia) was pitched against a wall of yellow and blue mixed with orange  for the opposition Apoel supporters…

Kick -off finally came …. and what a start…. within two minutes the Apoel goalie had foulled the advancing Omonia strker inside the penalty box.  A “no brainer” for the referre…Crowd explodes. Up steps the new Omonia hero and scorer of a great free kick against Man City ,   Albanian – Klodian Duro http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klodian_Duro . Unfortunately it is a comfortable hieght and goalie saves. Boo hoo fro the Greens…..  What seems like only seconds later its 1-0 Apoel as up the other end of the pitch on his debut new afriacn star scores with time to spare… More crowd madness, only this time its the Yellow and Blue half,,,,…  and the crazy start is still far from over. As the green mchine gets another penalty, this time ruthlessly scored, but not by Mr Duro, who was obviuosly out of sorts in the penalty stakes….A BARMY start – but great fun and much more exciting ….than some games I have seen both here in Cyprus and abroad…

I see open warfare broke out in the Houses of Parliament yesterday again, after the much criticised PM had been seen at his best in these worest of times. The the Tory front bench were having none of it as the ”blame game” kicked off again and we were back to normal in the village of Westminster.

Stay Happy

PS – Apoel won in the end last night 3-2 , but nothing came close to those opening few minutes…marvellous….

Old House for Sale in Ora …. Friday, Oct 10 2008

We have recently added this to our site..graet little projrect and fantastic value….even in these uncertain times…….

Dow DOWN, FTSE Down, Nikkei Down,  Sterling Down …and Pants Down …….but hey don’t worry 3.88% of Woolwoths is now Sugar….. Alan Sugar ….Mr The Apprentice sees some value obviously as he forks out hard earned cash for the beleagured retailer (but hey who isn’t Beleagured in the current mayhem ??)  - But please don’t try to move to Iceland – not sure the Brits are welcome at the moment and none of their Banks seem to be working anyway…

Wednesdy was a record trading day on the UK stock market with 4 times the usual daily volume of trades taking place…so as chaos rains all a round at least your friendly broker is making his margins, they get paid on ALL trades – be them BUY or SELLS….. so some one will be getting their Christmas bonuses this year :_)

Sray Happy And have a great weekend.

Up, Down and Out….and the week ain’t over yet… Friday, Oct 3 2008

Well welcome to October…..and the Autumn approaches, cooler days and nights and my favourite time of year here in Cyprus. The A/C is no longer wirrring continuously and there is much more energy about everyone as they go about there daily routine. Shops still close at 1 but open again at 3pm now instead of 4pm and the Banks will be open again on Monday afternoons :-) .

All doom and gloom still on the stock markets.. but Mondays collapse on the DOW, of 777 points was followed by a rally up on Tuesday and another collapse of nearly 400 points Thursday. Friday and we are currently up 160…. more ups and downs than a whore’s drawers (as me old Mum would say)… No honestly she would…….And one last thing another US Bank got snapped up today as Wachovia was swallowed by Wells Fargo…and so it goes on…….Next in the firing line – Unemployment – figures would make pretty viewing…

Stay Happy and have a great weekend
